焰means火苗(huǒmiáo)=Flame
e.g.
焰火=yànhuǒ=pyrotechnicdisplay;fireworks;
中国的春节,人们会放焰火庆祝节日.

燕: A kind of migratory birds=swallow
中国人认为燕子很可爱,动作敏捷, 所以常会用来小孩子很可爱,或是某人做是很灵活, 也常会被用作人的名字.

有挺多的, 中文中有很多发音相同,但汉字及意义均不同的字, 所以你要想精通读写,必须要认识汉字。
There are many characters have same pronunciation, but the characters and the meaning are different, so if you want to master reading and writing, you must recognize many Chinese characters.

There are some characters pronunciation `yān`:
咽 – 咽喉 yānhóu [throat]
腌 – 腌菜 yāncài [Pickles]
胭 – 胭脂 yānzhi〖rouge;cochineal〗
嫣 – 嫣然 yānrán〖sweetly;merrily〗嫣然一笑[sweetly smile]

THANKS ,

But What is the Base that We Must Take In consideration To Make a Word Like yāntái ( 烟台 ) Instead of yāntái (胭台)

Of Course you know that this character 烟 Means Smoke or tobacco And That Character 胭 means rouge

SO PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IS THE BASE THAT MAKE THISyāntái ( 烟台 ) Is CORRECT AND THAT yāntái (胭台) NOT CORRECT ???

OR WHY THIS yāntái ( 烟台 ) is right and that yāntái (胭台)is Wrong ?

You are diving into the heart of Chinese, the characters. In Chinese, many characters share the same sound (pronunciation). This is the same (but not that much) in English. For example, “see” and “sea”. These 2 words have the same sound but different meanings. In your examples, 烟 and 胭 share the same sound yān, but different meanings. For the city 烟台, 烟台 is the city name. I don’t think you can change the character 烟 and still refer to the same city, right? Similarly, the city of Cairo in Egypt. The word “Kairo” sounds like “Cairo”. I don’t think I can call the city Cairo, Kairo, do you agree?

Many Thanks To you ,

Yes Of Course there is a difference Between Kairo And Cairo But

In Egypt It Doesn’t matter to us Because We Speak Arabic Language

Cairo Or Kairo It Depend On English Language That Of Course Have Pronunciation More Clearer than Chinese And many of words Like Sea and See and also Cairo or kairo and also Till and Tell

CAN BE DISTINGUISHED Easily But In Case Of Chinese For EXAMPLE :

阏 or 阉 or 腌 or 烟 or 恹 = yān

阏=Shut , 阉 =Castrate , 腌=Pickled , 烟 =Smoke ,

恹=Contented ,

燕 怡 = Yan yi We Can Consider this as A city Name Also

Take this Example also :

Smoke = 烟 雾 =yān wù = smoke (noun) OR Smoke = 烟 (noun )

抽烟 = chōu yān = Smoke ( Verb)

SO We Can Use Or Compensate THIS : 烟 雾 =yān wù = smoke Instead of This Smoke = 烟 I am more Convenient About this

I think This 烟 雾 =yān wù = smoke is more Logic Than We use This By it self 烟

SO IF WE SUPPOSE THAT THAT THERE IS OTHER CITY NAME CALLED FOR EXAMPLE : 燕 怡 = Yan yi IS IT RIGHT TO WRITE IT LIKE THIS
燕 怡 = yān yí OR WE MUST WRITE IT LIKE THIS 烟 怡 = yān yí???
