Instead of using “Ni yao shen me?” when asking: “What do you want?” could I use “Shen me ni yao?” instead? If not, why?

Hi Crystal Dianne Yutiamco, unfortunately you can’t say that way.. In chinese speaking, we dont normally follow the way we speak english. So for instant, we dont say “nǎ li nǐ yào qù?” for the english sentence “Where are you going?” Instead we say “nǐ yào qù nǎ li?”

Remember, in chinese speaking, the senctence structure is normally like this:

Subject — Time — Place — Prepositional Phrase — Verb — Object

xie xie ni Lawrence. Also “what” in Chinese we put it at the end of the sentence in most cases.
