Hello there. I think I know the difference between the two but I want to be sure, so I would like for you to correct me if I’m wrong… neng2 and ke3 ye3 both mean can/could. The difference between the two is: neng2 is basically a substitute for may, as in “can I buy you…” or “can I be excused?”, whereas ke3 yi3 means something more like it’s possible, you are able, as in “Can you stop it?” or “I can do this” Right?
Xie xie.

A: neng2 can mean ability.eg: wo3 neng2 he1 san1 ping2 pi2 jiu3
I can drink three bottles of beer.
B: ke3 yi3 can mean permission.eg: ni3 bu4 ke3 yi3 jin4 qu4.
