But the traditional one is more complicated to write. we used it forty years ago. Nowadays, in the main land of China, we use the simplified,but in HongKong,Taiwan area, they still use the old one.
So, let me use a easy description: traditional chinese is an old version of that language. and the simplified one is the new one. We like to use that.
