ni hao Jon, welcome to Bennysland.

You can’t say wo mei shi mei guo ren. It doesn’t make sense in Chinese.

“mei” is the negative form of “you”, it means have not or don’t have, for example:

wǒ méi yǒu BMW = I don’t have BMW

wǒ méi (yǒu) qù guò Beijing = I haven’t been to Beijing

For other cases, we use “bu” as the negative word.
