Nihao laoshi,

in films I watched I often heard " Ni gan shen me gui ? " since I know the meaning is “what are you doing” , I wonder what is ‘gui’ in this context, It isn’t ghost, is it ?

xiexie ni.

Hi Loetji,

Gui does mean ghost, but in this context it functions as a kind of “exaggeration”

So the whole sentence means "what on earth/ the hell are you doing?

Cheers!

Benny
