Hi Benny, I want to say, “Why are you always so happy?” Is this correct, “Nǐ wèishénme cónglái nàme gāoxìng?”

Hi Stephen,

It is better to say "Nǐ wèishénme zong shi nàme gāoxìng?”

zong shi = always

Thanks Benny, I wondered about that. What is the difference between zòngshì and cónglái and when should each be used?

I think conglai is usually only used in the negative to mean Never

Conglai bu = I never Ex: Wo gen ta conglai bu shuo I never speak with him

but if it is something you are never done in the past it is

Conglai mei. Ex: Wo conglai mei quguo Beijing. I have never gone to Beijing

Hope this helps. As an added bonus , if you want to say you never will do something you would use jue bu hui
Wo jue bu hui qu beijing , I will never go to Beijing

Im pretty sure this is correct , but if not Im sure someone will be along to tell me :) But Im 98% sure its good

Hi Stephen,

Like Sugelanren said, “cong lai” is normally used with “bu and mei you” to mean “never or have never done…”

Such as “cong lai mei/ cong lai mei you”

苏格兰人。。。原来你的名字是中国的拼音啊,真的没想到,哈哈!!

There is a question, you have just learned Chinese for only one year, how can you be so successful in Chinese. That is amazing, I’v been studying English for 4 years already, but I can’t speak English as well as your Chinese at all. Are there some skills or knacks in the language studying to learn so fast for you??? I’m very curious about this, and hoping for your sharing…

I don’t think my Chinese is that good :) Perhaps written but my main problem is getting the chance to use it in conversation.

I have always liked languages I speak 6 and wanted to make Mandarin my 7th but I have to admit I have certainly met my match with this language :) However I will persist. 我 只 是 那么 的 顽固 :) Wo zhi shi name de wangu :)
The trick to progressing in any language is simple: study , study , study but with one important ingredient. Enjoy learning it.Make it fun.
Yes there are times when it seems difficult but you have to go through them to get to where you want to go. There is a great saying in Mandarin which captures this perfectly.
百折不挠 , Bai Zhe Bu Nao . Despite the difficulties, carry on regardless.

Thank you very much for your helpful advice to my english studying. I will persist in my language with out hesitating too. You said you have learned 6 language already, then I assume that you must have a job involved with the language, don’t you? Or else how can you practice your speaking skills? I mean that I can read the most of the news in Einglish and express my idea generally in English by writing it, but it is very hard to speak it. So I want to know how you can overcome this problem in 6 language studying ? And anyway, you can learn Chinese to this high level just for one year, that is very successful!!

By the way, my MSN is jxm624@hotmail.com maybe we can have a chat or something in Chinese on the internet. Great to meet you!
