Sorry for this confusion, this word used to have lots of meaning hundred of years ago, but nowadays, it can only be used as people’s surname, this is a very rare character.

| | Roland Parijs yahoo.com 2010-08-16 / 02:02AM | | Dear Claudia 其 qí stands for his (her; its; their);
he (she, it, they); that; such.
I found that the old (archaic) meaning of 其 qí was a bucket where
you couldn put things in. I gues it ater it became a bucket (placeholder)
to hold the above meanings [his (her; its; their);
he (she, it, they); that; such] in.
Examples:
其他 【qítā】 other; else.
其它 【qítā】 other.
其他人 【qítārén】 the other
代替 【dài tì】 in stead of
chú le tīng yīn yuè tā hái yǒu hěn duō qí tā ài hào
除了听音乐,她还有很多-其他-爱好。
Apart from listning to music, she has a lot of other hobbies.
我不知道,你问-其他人-吧。
wǒ bù zhī dào nǐ wèn qí tā rén ba
I don’t know, ask someone else.
zài hé lán hěn duō rén hē niú nǎi dài tì bǐ jiù
在荷兰很多人喝牛奶-代替-啤酒
In Hollamd many people drink milk in sead of beer.
Hope I’m right and that it is of help to you.
万事如意
