In the north of China, especially Beijing, people tend to put “er” after every word. This is a habit or accent of people from north.
While in the south China, people tend to use “li”, both of those 2 are correct.

Benny Ah !!….. I see it all so clearly now!….. so if the people iammost likely to be talking to are from Taiwan then I wan’t to go with the “non-beijing” example!….. thanks | |

But beware Val, nali can also mean not at all, if you give a compliment to a Chinese person they will modestly say “nǎ lǐ, nǎ lǐ” nǎ lǐ 哪里 哪里
但是哪里的一时也是“不对，不对”。 如果你对中国女人说你很漂亮
她会对你说“哪里，哪里”(=NOT AT ALL)。

Nali Nali indeed is an expression of modesty and it doesn’t has the litteral meaning of where. (Although I imagine it could com from the litteral meaning,
like “You are vere beatifull” nali nali where, where (i.e where am I beautiful?)
