Ni Hao Benny…

I hear the word “shihou” a lot in Mandarin. Does it indicate the future tense? Also, “yihou” means “after”.

In addition… What is the difference between “shihou” and “yihou”? Thanks!

Xavier,
(的时候 de shi2 hou4) is often used when you’re talking about the past. Like if you want to tell a story from your childhood you’d say “when i was young…” In mandarin it goes “wo3 nian2 qing1 de shi2 hou4” 我年轻的时候. It’s basically the ‘when’ part of your sentence.

I believe you can also use it in future tense like “when i get there…” Not quite sure, Benny can confirm on that.
