Hi Benny, take a look at the following sentences:

还不给我放手
Let go of me

还不快放我下来
Put me down quickly

Why is 还不 used in those sentences, doesn’t 还不 means “still not”? But the translation of the sentences are quite different. Does 还不 over here has a different meaning?

Thanks!

Hi Lee Kong,

还不 does mean “still not” here. It’s just can’t be translated literally into English.

Benny
