How would you say “A book tightly shut is but a block of paper”? It is for a friend’s birthday and i would like to inscribe this on the inside of the book i am giving her. Thank you in advance!

Hi KATE, this is a very good sentence. In Chinese we say:

闲置之书只是一叠废纸 xián zhì zhī shū zhǐ shì yì dié fèi zhǐ
