“的” mainly has 2 usages,
1. 的 de = possession, for example:
我的妈妈 = My mum, 你的朋友 = Your friend
2. “的” is used after an adjective to modify a noun. For example:
漂亮的城市 = Besautiful
贵的菜 = expensive food
便宜的东西 = Cheap things
