1. zhè ge shén me yì si = What does this mean?
2. nǐ zhōngwén shuō de hǎo ma? = Are you good Chinese
3. duì, wǒ shì = Yes, I am
4. bù, wǒ bú shì = No, I am not
5. wǒ bù míng bái, nǐ kě yi shuō yīng yǔ ma? = I didn’t understand, so can you say it in English?

However, if number 3 and 4 were to be answers of the question nº2, then they would be:
3. hǎo. [wǒ (de) zhōngwén shuō de hěn hǎo]
4. bù hǎo. [wǒ (de) zhōngwén shuō de bù hǎo]
By repeating the main verb you agree with the sentence. On the other hand, if you negate the main verb you are negating the sentence. | |
