is mandarin different form the regular chinese or is the same thing? please comment back im trying to learn so i can talk to my grilfried :)

Mandarin is our official language… but there are many dialects like, Cantonese (what they speak in Hong Kong), Shanghainese (what they speak in Shanghai) and many others! What we teach is Mandarin, which can be understood by everyone in China.
