I think it’s “ma” not “ba”. It is a auxiliary word of tone.
eg: could you please help me?= ni3 ke3 yi3 bang1 zhu4 wo3 ma?

May I kiss you?=wo3 ke3 yi3 wen3 ni3 ma?
