This is fascinating and I’m going to try and learn mandarin from your site! But I’m confused how to read the words you use to describe how to say the word. For example: Zài Jiàn? Do you have a phonetics guide to the pronunciations in English? And what are those things above the a? I see stright lines, up accents and down accent marks and smiles? What do they mean?

Hi Stoofy, to understand pin yin, you should first learn the 4 tones, that why you can see those marks up and down. At the moment, we don’t have a guide to the pronunciations in English, but this is a good idea, we will may do this in the future.
