I’m going to Macau this August (studying for 5 months)… what advise can you give me when interacting with the people in Macau?
What should I use? Cantonese or Mandarin?

In Macao, people speak English and Cantonese, after Macao came back to China in 1999, the local government there started to promote Mandarin. But I don’t think the Mandarin level there is as good as it’s in Mainland

Thanks for the info! Although I do have some Mandarin-speaking companions with me but they are students as well. Do you think that Mandarin will suffice or should I really study basic Cantonese “for the meantime”?
