I am abit confused between zai4 and zhe.. Can i say the
following? :
1) wo3 zai3 deng3 ni3
2) wo3 deng3 zhe ni3

both sentences mean “I am waiting for you”(assuming i said them right) .

Also for the ‘zhe’ is it applicable to all verbs used before it? so for instant, du2 zhe (reading), chi1 zhe (eating) , xue2 xi2 zhe (studying) and so on..

Sorry if this questions seem silly…I am still very much a newbie :s

Your have a good question.
Both “wo zai deng ni”and “wo deng zhe ni” are right. In my opinion,"zai4"is more like a “-ing” form in English. So if you want to express you are dancing. You may say"wo3 zheng4 zai4 tiao4 wu3". “zhe” is more like a “doing sth and keep it doing” . For instance, you were reading yesterday. You may say"wo3 zheng4 kan4 zhe shu1 zuo2 tian1" .
Maybe other bennyians might give you more explainations.
