i have a book called Chinese in Plain English, and it said that “eye” is yan, and that “yanjing” is eyeglasses… can someone give me an understanding of this because now I’m very confused on which is correct >.<

First of all, “yǎn jīng (first tone) = eyes” and “yǎn jìng (last tone)”.
Then let’s see the characters：眼睛 = eyes, 眼镜 = glasses.
As you can see that the second character is different. Therefore, those are 2 different phrases. But because the pin yin and characters are pretty similar, people usually get confused, especially for someone who can’t recognize Chinese characters
Also, “yǎn” is used for written mainly as eye.
