More seriously I’m wondering about learning Japanese or Mandarin and I don’t know which one is the “better”. I mean: these languages are part of two different cultures, so learning one of them involve to learn the culture. Anyway, who are the most significant japanese “philosophers” (the chinese ones are well-known: Confucius, Lao Tse, Sun Tzu…)?

In terms of the numbers of people and usage, definitely Chinese is more useful than Japanese(assume that you’re not in Japan).
However, at the end of the day, this is your decision to decide which language you need to learn

Benny Hi Benny: first of all I want to congratulate you for the always more interesting themes you write on your blog.
Then I think you are right in your analysis of the Tai Wan Gvernment choiches: but they are not only political choiches but also “ingenuos” (I want to be polite…)choiches. How could them imagine that who give help today, ’ll ask for the bill tomorrow?? if they are afraid of China…ok…but in the meantime they are entering in the bear lain….
AS Italy: yesterday we used help from Usa and todaday Italy is the waiter of USA!(fuwuyuan? yes sir!). anyway:people life must come before all.

or… Hi Claudia,
As far as I know, Tai wan’s name can’t tacked to the early "Ming Dynasty“. “tái” is the word from “tai feng” which means “Typhoon” and “wan” means “bay.”
