If I give you guys one name ---- Harry Potter. I'm sure that at least 90% of you do know who it is. The latest Movie of Harry Potter---half blood prince is coming to China in 2 days. Lots of Fans in China is so excited and get ready to see it.
I was always wondering why Harry Potter is so popular in the world. There are must be some reasons. Of course first because the book is well written and easy to understand. In addition, how many of us have ever wished, at our dream, at one time or another that we could do magic?
Harry Potter is definitely a great book, no doubt. However, I found that it was not as great as some of our Chinese stories after I read the book. No
offense. China has many great children stories that I believe they are better than Harry potter. The only they don't have is the right way to market.
Obviously, "Harry potter" is really lucky. Because it has already become a marketing and merchandising phenomenon. The release of each Harry potter's movie is a world effort. It has the best marketing people work behind the scene to make it one of the world's most widely recognized names.
In the other hand, take a look at the Chinese kinds books. Great content, easy to understand. The pity is, is has very limited support. No wonder all the Chinese kids just turned to "Harry Potter". This is so sad. There is something we can surely learn from.
Harry potter has no Magic but the right marketing strategy to make it famous.

And yes, I believe Chinese people should do something to promote Chinese stories. However, I’m afraid they would promote these stories by modifying them, adding ideas from Harry Potter and other non-Chinese stories to make them more appealing to the Chinese kids, as they have already been doing this with the Chinese movies, the movie “爱情呼叫转移II” is a typical example, they didn’t only copy the ideas, but also the entire movie poster and cover. | |
